Surface Nanoscale Axial Photonics (SNAP) Devices
Miniature slow light devices based on the recently developed Surface Nanoscale Axial Photonics (SNAP) technological platform is reviewed. The theory and experimental demonstration of the SNAP bottle resonator dispersionless delay line and dispersion compensator are presented. Keywords— Nanophotonics, microresonators, microfibres
متن کاملSurface nanoscale axial photonics: robust fabrication of high-quality-factor microresonators.
Recently introduced surface nanoscale axial photonics (SNAP) makes it possible to fabricate high-Q-factor microresonators and other photonic microdevices by dramatically small deformation of the optical fiber surface. To become a practical and robust technology, the SNAP platform requires methods enabling reproducible modification of the optical fiber radius at nanoscale. In this Letter, we dem...
متن کاملHigh-Q Microresonators as Lasing Elements for Silicon Photonics
Although the concept of constructing active optical waveguides in crystalline silicon has existed for over twenty years, it is only in the past few years that silicon photonics has been given serious attention as a displacing technology. Fueled by the predicted saturation of “Moore’s Law” within the next decade, universities and industries from all over the world are exploring the possibilities...
متن کاملHigh Q SiC microresonators.
We demonstrate photonic devices based on standard 3C SiC epitaxially grown on silicon. We achieve high optical confinement by taking advantage of the high stiffness of SiC and undercutting the underlying silicon substrate. We demonstrate a 20 μm radius suspended microring resonator with Q=14,100 fabricated on commercially available SiC-on-silicon substrates.
متن کاملReplica-molded high-Q polymer microresonators.
Ultrahigh-Q microtoroids on a chip are applied as replication masters to demonstrate replica-molded high-Q microresonator arrays. Replica Q factors are nearly material loss limited, affirming the integrity of the replication process, and are as high as 5 x 10(6), or nearly a factor of 40 greater than previous polymer-based devices. Because the molding process is nondestructive, both the master ...
